Do I need to tell Centrelink that I’m going overseas?

YourLifeChoices answers the question of whether you need to tell Centrelink about your next overseas travel adventure!

Q. Do I need to tell Centrelink that I’m going overseas?

I’m planning on taking an extended holiday overseas, six weeks in total. As this is just a temporary absence, do I need to bother telling Centrelink?

A. Whilst this may be a temporary absence, it is necessary for you to advise Centrelink. If you continue to meet the eligibility requirements, most pension payments can be paid during a temporary absence of up to 13 weeks from Australia, so your absence shouldn’t impact your payments. However, should Centrelink try to contact you while you are overseas and are unable to do so, it may stop your payments unless advised of your travel arrangements.
