Kylie Minogue has been honoured with a star on the forecourt of Rod Laver Arena to commemorate 35 years of concerts by the global pop superstar.
The unveiling in the Melbourne Park precinct on the weekend coincided with Minogue’s three latest sold-out shows, three-and-a-half decades on from her first performance at the then-named National Tennis Centre in February 1990.
The gold star has been positioned adjacent to the statue of the late Michael Gudinski, who promoted every Kylie concert in Australia before he died in 2021.
“It seems appropriate that MG will be watching over my star each day,” Minogue said.
Minogue said she was incredibly proud to receive the star.
“This is such an honour to have this in my home town.”
“I wasn’t quite prepared for the gravitas of it and what it means to me and how beautiful it looks.”
Minogue has held 33 shows at Melbourne Park, selling 386,000 tickets.
Melbourne Park CEO John Harnden said Minogue’s performances at the precinct were record-breaking.
“It’s only fitting we celebrate her amazing legacy with this star, cementing her name in the history of this great destination for live events,” he said.
Minogue’s association with Melbourne Park predates her decades of concerts.
Part of the film clip for her early hit Got To Be Certain from her debut album, Kylie, was filmed just across the river in 1988.
Minogue’s latest tour continues with shows in Brisbane and Sydney before the star heads to Asia, Canada, North America, the UK, Europe and Latin America.
