Food safety alert: Coles pulls lunch product over potential health risk

Navigating the aisles of your local supermarket, you expect to find a variety of convenient and tasty options to satisfy your midday hunger pangs. But what happens when one of those quick lunch solutions poses a hidden health risk? That’s exactly the situation some Coles customers in Victoria found themselves in recently.

Coles has issued an urgent recall for one of its sandwiches for an undeclared ingredient that could lead to a serious allergic reaction.

The sandwiches in question—Coles Kitchen Chicken and Salad Sandwich (194g)—were sold across several locations, including South Melbourne, Glenferrie, Camberwell, Balwyn North, Fitzroy, Brighton, St Kilda, Toorak Village, Normanby Road, and Surrey Hills.

They were available for purchase both in physical stores and online between 27 and 28 February, with a used-by date of 2 March.

The sandwiches have been recalled due to the presence of milk. It is particularly crucial for individuals with milk allergies or intolerances, as accidental consumption could lead to a health hazard.

For those with milk allergies, consuming products containing milk can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening. Symptoms of a milk allergy reaction can range from mild (hives, itching, or skin rash) to severe (trouble breathing, wheezing, or loss of consciousness).

Coles has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by this recall and has advised customers who have purchased the affected product to return it to any Coles supermarket or Coles Local store for a full refund. If you’ve made your purchase online, you can contact Coles Online Customer Care at 1800 455 400 to arrange for a refund or credit.
