Low-fat Spicy Teacake

Who doesn’t love a slice of cake with a cup of tea? Even better is that this Spicy Teacake is low-fat, so you can enjoy a second slice!

Ingredients



  • 250g self-raising flour
  • 150g dark brown soft sugar


  • 4 tablespoons golden syrup (you can use light molasses, if you prefer)
  • 250ml buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons mixed spice
  • pinch of salt


Method
Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Grease and line a loaf tin.

Sieve the flour into a bowl and add the sugar and syrup. Pour in the milk, stirring to combine.

Pour into the loaf tin and bake for an hour.

Serve with some sliced apple and Greek yoghurt.

Serving suggestion: sprinkle with oats before baking.
