Orange Poppy Seed Cake

Enjoy our Orange Poppy Seed Cake for afternoon tea, or bake it to celebrate a loved one’s birthday. It’s fuss free and deliciously moist.

Serves: Eight

Time: 50 minutes

Ingredients

  • 50g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon finely grate orange rind
  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup self-raising flour
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • icing sugar, to dust

 

Method

Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease a 6cm deep and 19cm square cake tin and line the sides with baking paper. In a large bowl, add the butter, orange rind, sugar, eggs, flour and poppy seeds and stir to combine. Spoon mixture into the cake tin and cook for 40 minutes. Remove and let stand for five minutes to cool. Dust with icing sugar and serve.
