Sardine and Broccoli Pasta

This classic Sicilian recipe is well loved for its delicious and simple flavours. It’s full of healthy omega-3 fats and, if you eat the Sardine bones, calcium. You can whip up this dish in under 15 minutes so it’s super quick, making it perfect after a long day.

Serves: Two
Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 200g farfalle pasta
  • 1 broccoli head, cut into florets
  • 1 tin sardines in olive oil
  • 100g Pecorino cheese, grated
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Method
Drain the sardines from the tin and chop them into small pieces. In a large fry pan, crisp up sardines over a low heat.

Add the grated cheese and cook until the cheese has melted around the sardines. Season with salt and pepper.

Meanwhile, cook the pasta in lightly salted water. Two minutes before the pasta is almost done, add the broccoli florets.

Drain the pasta and broccoli and add to the sardine mixture. Serve immediately.
