The American fast-food chain Wendy’s has launched in Australia, introducing both its classic menu and new items developed for local tastes. With plans for expansion, Wendy’s is offering a menu that combines its traditional offerings with additions tailored to the Australian market.
The menu features Australian ingredients, including two new Australian beef burgers. The OG hamburger with the lot is a familiar concept with Wendy’s spin, featuring a square-shaped beef patty made from 100% Australian beef. This shape is designed to provide a consistent bite in every mouthful. Available in Classic Single, Double, and Triple patty varieties, the burger includes cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and pickles—a topping that often sparks mixed opinions.

For bacon enthusiasts, the Baconmator offers a substantial option. It includes two quarter-pound Australian beef patties, crispy bacon, cheese, ketchup, and mayo, served in a toasted brioche-style bun. It’s a hearty option for those with a serious appetite and a love for all things bacon.
But Wendy’s isn’t just about the beef. They’ve also introduced 100% Australian chicken tenders to their menu, catering to the chicken tender aficionados among us. These tenders are double hand-breaded in-store, ensuring a crispy, juicy bite every time. Available in both Homestyle and a uniquely Australian Spicy flavour, these tenders can be enjoyed in a variety of ways—in burgers, wraps, or as part of a 3-piece or 5-piece meal.
John Li, Vice President of Culinary Innovation at The Wendy’s Company, highlighted the development process behind the chicken tenders, noting that they underwent over 25 iterations. The tenders were designed with the Australian market in mind, incorporating specific fryers, spices, and a signature sauce exclusive to Australia.
For those with a lighter appetite or in search of a snack, Wendy’s signature Hot & Crispy Fries are a must-try. And for an indulgent treat, the loaded fries come with a choice of Baconmator, Chilli Cheese, or Cheese Loaded toppings—a finger-licking delight that’s hard to resist.
No Wendy’s experience would be complete without their Frosty dessert, a creamy concoction that sits somewhere between a milkshake and ice cream. Available in chocolate and vanilla, it offers a sweet option to complement a meal or provide a refreshing treat on a hot Australian day.
Wendy’s focus on freshness applies to its entire menu. According to John Li, the goal is to provide a high-quality dining experience. The brand’s first Australian store opened in Surfer’s Paradise in January, and its trading hours have been extended in response to customer demand. With the new master franchisee Flynn Group, the company has plans for further expansion across Australia.
Currently, the Cavill Avenue location in Surfer’s Paradise is the only Wendy’s outlet offering the Australian menu. However, there are plans to expand to more locations across the country as the brand grows its presence in Australia.
Is there anything on the menu that catches your eye? Will you be visiting the Surfer’s Paradise location, or are you waiting for Wendy’s to open in your area? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments below.

Looks utterly dreadful – why on earth do we need a down market competitor like this in the Aussie fast food market? I remember in the States years ago that this mob made Maccers look innovative and deluxe!!
