The World Economic Forum (WEF) has predicted that around 85 million jobs will be lost to automation by 2025. This is equivalent to around 5 million jobs being displaced every year over the next five years. The WEF report, entitled “Future of Jobs,” revealed that the pandemic has accelerated the process of automation and digitization, leaving a significant impact on the workforce. The report suggested that around 97 million new jobs could emerge in industries such as artificial intelligence, content creation, and cloud computing. However, these jobs would require workers to have advanced digital skills and adaptability.
The report also revealed that the pandemic has caused an uneven impact on women’s employment, with job losses likely to impact women more than men. The report suggests that governments need to focus on upskilling and reskilling workers and promoting gender equality to mitigate the effects of job displacement. The WEF report predicted that by 2025, 43 per cent of companies plan to reduce their workforce due to technology integration, while 34 per cent plan to expand their workforce. The report suggests that companies need to invest in reskilling their workforce to prepare them for the shift towards automation and digitisation.
What do you think? Will traditional jobs continue to be replaced by automation?
Fascinating…and scary. I do wonder what the world will look like for my kids…
All this should make the argument for the educating of our children to the highest level possible for this future. This will require teachers to be skilled in dealing with the neurodiversity of all our children. Equally to achieve this we need Universities to be available for all and with reduced fees.
