Another Qantas executive has been shown the door.

Well, technically, chairman Richard Goyder has announced he will retire before the AGM late next year, but you get the feeling he was dragged kicking and screaming.

He said late last month the ‘major shareholders are very strongly supportive of me staying’. No mention of the mug punters using his airline of course.

However, maybe it finally dawned on him the airline’s rock bottom reputation and his hand in it when he announced his retirement last week.

“As a board, we acknowledge the significant reputational and customer service issues facing the group and recognise that accountability is required to restore trust,” Goyder said.

“Mistakes were made. We again apologise for those times where we got it wrong.”

The unions aren’t having it. Transport Workers Union national secretary Michael Kaine remains unimpressed.

“This isn’t genuine board renewal, this is just shuffling the deckchairs … With no worker representation, Qantas governance has ignored the needs of the workforce and decimated jobs and standards.”

Is he right? Do you think the whole board needs to go?

Agree with dkm. clear the lot out, I am fed up with snouts in the trough. Not only qantas but the whole public service.

The new CEO should also be dismissed. How do you get cultural change by putting a many years long part of the old culture in charge? If the outrageous salaries are justified by being the world’s best available for the job then what a coincidence she was just sitting there already at Qantas? And if she is the best person for the job, how come Joyce wasn’t kicked out years ago because clearly he wasn’t the best?
