We don’t usually report of food recalls from other countries, but this one was too good not to share. Denmark has officially banned a popular brand of Korean instant ramen noodles for being too spicy, classifying the snack as a poison.
Samyang Buldak 3x Spicy & Hot Chicken, 2x Spicy & Hot Chicken and Hot Chicken Stew instant ramen varieties have been banned by the Danish Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after a social media trend were children dare each other to eat the spicy noodles has seen many land in hospital.
In a statement, the Danish FDA said the noodles contained capsaicin levels “so high that it can pose a health hazard”.
“The noodle dishes marketed as extremely strong must no longer be sold because consumers and especially children risk acute poisoning.”
Capsaicin is the active component in chillies that give them their distinctive kick. It’s also the main ingredient in pepper spray.
I don’t know about you, but as a lover of spicy foods, I’m tempted to give these a go!
Are these available in Austraalia? I am a lover of hot food so would definitely seek these out for a sample. I have never come across anything which is too hot in Australia, maybe overseas but not here.
Where on the Scoville Scale are these dishes ???
Have they also banned the Chillis that are Equal or higher on the Scoville Scale ???
The Scoville Scale is used to measure the amount of Capsaicin within the product, originally developed for Chillis.
