Do you recline your seat on a flight? Well according to etiquette experts this may mean you are a ‘jerk’.

“Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should do it,” Etiquette coache Tami Claytor told HuffPost. “Reclining your seat and interfering with someone else’s comfort violates the basic principle of etiquette.”

Experts advise passengers on short flights to avoid reclined seats unless they can guarantee that it won’t inconvenience the person behind them. However, the reclining rules differ depending on the flight duration.

“If it’s a long flight, it’s unreasonable to expect each passenger not to do what they can to get comfortable.”

“If it’s a red eye, sleep is important and reclining is acceptable, especially since everyone else is reclining at the same time.”

I only recline if the person behind me is also reclining? What are your reclining rules?

I agree with the above & would like to add that reclining your seat at mealtimes is a definite no no!! If the person in front does this, ask the steward to tell them not to!

Beginning with an insult is not a acceptable way to start a discussion.
Having a back affected by age, I do need to recline the seat whenever I can.
I wish that I could afford “Business” so I could recline it that bit further and no, I do not have it reclined during meal breaks.
