ParticipantSome Victorian households are being given a fourth bin with a purple top for glass only recyclables.
The new bins have been rolled out across 13 municipalities and will be rolled out to include all households by Victorian households by 2030.
We only have a little yard, I’m not sure where we are going to put another bin.
I do separate my rubbish, but when you look into it, so little of it is recycled if makes you wonder if it’s worth the effort. While we have a pretty good record as far as paper and green waste is concerned, under 10 per cent of plastics are recycled.
Do we have too many bins? -

ParticipantSeparating items increases the potential for recycling. Only putting bins out when they are full reduces energy consumption by collection vehicles. Purchasing recycled products will increase the need for recycling.
Other countries have sets of bins for a number of occupancies, different bin for different waste, improving recycling. Multiple households using the set of bins, thus reducing the number of bins. But would we walk down the street to use them? Is our need for convenience part of the problem?
