ParticipantA shopper on Reddit has gone viral after raging against the supposed ‘low price’ of a 560g jar of Vegemite at Woolworths – at $9.40 a jar. He even shared a picture of the price tag, highlighted as a ‘bargain’ in store.
“It’s nearly 10 bucks for Vegemite now? And this is a low price?” the user asked other commenters.
“We need an insider at Coles and Woolies to start showing the cost price of stuff. Actually show how much price gouging is going on,” one commenter answered.
But some users defended the price, pointing out that 560g of Vegemite is quite a lot.
“It’s still overpriced, it would be so cheap to make,” another commentator said in response to people defending the price.

ParticipantVegemite should be cheap to make. It’s almost entirely made from brewery waste (excess yeast) and salt.
