Hard-pressed Australians are facing yet another blow to their wallets, as Australia Post is increasing the cost of stamps by a significant 25 per cent. The proposal will see the price of standard stamps soar from $1.20 to $1.50, taking effect from January next year.

However, concession and seasonal greetings stamps will remain unaffected by this change.

Australia Post has submitted a draft proposal to the Australian Competitor and Consumer Commission (ACCC), and the regulator is now seeking input from consumers, businesses, and other stakeholders to understand their perspectives on the proposed price increase.

Although the ACCC does not have the authority to approve or deny the price rise, they can register an objection if deemed appropriate. The ACCC will be accepting submissions until 29 September.
