MemberA new list of some of the best places to retire in 2024 has been released by due.com, with Australia making the list!
Here are the top five.
Switzerland: Retiring in Switzerland requires meeting specific criteria and the cost of living can be high, but it offers beautiful natural surroundings and a low tax rate.
Portugal: With its pleasant climate and affordable cost of living, Portugal is a popular retirement spot. EU citizens can easily retire in Portugal, while non-EU citizens have a specific residency process.
Norway: Known for its stunning landscapes, Norway offers naturalization or residency permits to retirees who meet certain requirements. Although the cost of living is higher, healthcare and transportation are excellent.
Australia: Retiring in Australia requires a retirement visa or permanent residency visa. Renting is common, and public healthcare is available for citizens and residents.
Thailand: With its rich history and low cost of living, Thailand can offer a tropical retirement experience. A retirement visa is required, and private healthcare coverage is recommended.
The list was created for US citizens, but I wonder if you agree with the results? If you could retire anywhere in the world, where would it be – and why?

ParticipantPortugal doesn’t have a Tax treaty with Australia. They even tax Age pensions @ 10% flat and other income at 25%. Beware.
