ParticipantStreaming platforms are looking like less and less of a good deal.
Remember when Foxtel came out and we were promised no ads because we had paid a subscription. That didn’t last long.
Now most streaming businesses have ads, but Prime have taken it to the next level.
Amazon Prime subscribers who paid for a year’s worth of ad-free streaming have just been informed ads would now be included in their ad-free subscription.
The audacity! Not surprisingly, this has made a few people mad. The move will come into effect on July 2.
But it’s all for our own good apparently. The ads will pay for better shows. Definitely not for over-inflated executive salaries.
For the record, Amazon Prime generated a tad over $40 billion in revenue last year.
And while it sounds like it should be illegal, unfortunately it’s not. It’s regarded as a ‘change of service’ instead of misleading or deceptive conduct.
Would you continue to pay under such circumstances?

ParticipantYou would think they could honour the contract, I would cancel after that, there are plenty of others to choose from albeit they all may have ads
