Online analyst Mozilla took a look at privacy concerns for modern cars and the findings may make you squirm.

In their own words, cars were the worst product category they have ever reviewed for privacy. Ouch.

According to Mozilla, modern manufacturers have been bragging for years their products are ‘computers on wheels’, but that has come at the cost of your privacy.

Mozilla described cars as ‘powerful data-gobbling machines’.

So what exactly are brands collecting about you?

All 25 brand examined collect and uses personal information for reasons other than to operate your vehicle.

Most, 84 per cent, sell or share your data without your permission. And 56 per cent say they share your data with the government or law enforcement ‘on their request’.

Only two companies – Renault and Dacia – offer the right to have your data deleted. This probably isn’t something nice they do. This covers Europe-only models which are subject to robust General Data Protection Regulation privacy law, so they have to.

No company could provide any evidence of securing your data.

Does this worry you? Would you like answers from car manufacturers?
