NSW drivers who maintain an unblemished driving record for 12 months from 17 January 2022 will be entitled to getting one demerit point removed from their record under a new pilot program.

It means drivers can start having points removed as early as mid-April 2024.

The trial only applies to fully-licensed drivers; learners and provisional licence holders are excluded.

This approach is not aimed at allowing serious offence-committing drivers back on the streets, but rather as an incentive for those drivers with accumulated points due to minor offences to improve their driving habits, making the roads safer for us all.

Do you think this is a good idea?
