An interesting study from Flinders University in Adelaide has revealed that almost one third of adults (31 per cent) are not getting the recommended seven to nine hours sleep each night.

The research also showed that just 15 per cent of people who do get seven to nine hours manage to do that five nights or more each week.

The study looked at the sleep habits of more than 68,000 people over a nine-month period, tracking their sleep through under-mattress sensors.

Among those who managed an average of seven to nine hours each night hours over the monitoring period, there were around 40 per cent of nights where they didn’t get the required sleep.

Dr Hannah Scott, lead researcher on the study, says it shows how difficult it is for most people to get the recommended amount of sleep each night.

“Clearly getting the recommended sleep duration range frequently is a challenge for many people to achieve, especially during the working week,” she says.

Do you get seven to nine hours of sleep each night? If you do, how often do you manage to do that?
