ParticipantApple is getting ready to release its next iOS update, iOS 17, in September. This new operating system will unlock a plethora of fresh and exciting features for iPhone users.
Unfortunately, as per previous practices, this update will not be compatible with iPhone 8 and iPhone X models, launched back in 2017, effectively rendering them a security risk as they will no longer be able to receive updates.
The move follows Apple’s usual iOS release schedule that sees iPhone models ‘retired’ after around five years.
A report from online phone reseller SellCell states that the smartphones’ values are likely to drop by up to 50 per cent and open owners up to a range of security risks.
“Neither the iPhone X or the iPhone 8 will receive the iOS 17 update, which means the phones won’t get security updates either,” the report says.
“Owners and their data are more at risk of attack by people with malicious intent, like hackers, for example.”
Do you own an iPhone 8 or iPhone X?

ParticipantSounds like another good reason to give Apple a miss and move to a trusty Android phone if it doesn’t damage your image and ego too much!
