People aged 40 and over can safely drink at least one glass of wine or a bottle of beer each day, research has found.
Even increasing your intake to two drinks per day doesn’t seem to have any long-term effect on your health.
The study, published in journal The Lancet, is the latest evidence showing alcohol intake comes with a range of benefits for older adults.
The researchers claim alcohol can help ward off heart disease and type 2 diabetes, boost ‘good’ cholesterol levels and antioxidants in the blood.
It is also thought to improve blood glucose levels and boost levels of adiponectin – a hormone that improves insulin sensitivity, protecting against type 2 diabetes.
So sit back and enjoy that drink without the guilt!
My heart specialist told me not to drink wine as it contains sulfer dioxide which effects my heart rhythm. Australia do not monitor sulfer dioxide in there wine. European countries do have rules to monitor the sulfer dioxide in wine. I tested both wines and found I could drink Italian wine without any heart problems, but not Australian wine.
