The WA state government is set to offer homeowners renting their properties through short-stay sites like Airbnb a $10,000 incentive to make their properties available to long-term tenants, The Guardian is reporting.

Community housing advocates support the move and say it could potentially double the number of properties available for rent.

But Michael Crosby, head of public policy for Airbnb Australia, says the plan may not increase rental stock that much because short-term rentals were such a small percentage of total housing stock in WA.

“Housing issues have existed long before the founding of Airbnb, and targeting these properties is not a long-term solution,” he said.

Will this solution help the rental crisis? Would you accept this offer as a landlord?
