The Disaster Recovery Payment can give you a lump sum to help deal with the impacts of last year’s floods.
Time is running out for households who were affected by floods in July last year and intend to make a claim.
Eligible Australians in NSW have until 5 April to register a claim for a Disaster Recovery Payment, Services Australia advises.
“The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment is not for minor damage or inconvenience,” Services Australia says.
“Its purpose is to help you with major damage to your property or other assets. You can choose to get this payment in two parts.”
If you are eligible, you can receive $1000 per adult and $400 per child younger than 16.
How to make a claim
You can check full eligibility criteria on the Services Australia website and can claim the Disaster Recovery Payment online through Centrelink.
To claim online, you need a myGov account linked to Centrelink. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to set one up online.
If you need help, call Services Australia on 180 22 66, Monday to Friday from 8am to 7pm and on weekends between 10am and 4pm.
