MemberAustralia’s biggest health insurer, Medibank, says it was forced to shut down systems after it discovered a potential ransomware attack.
Medibank says it is still investigating and is yet to find evidence that customer data has been compromised.
“Medibank’s investigation, which is ongoing, indicated that its cybersecurity systems had detected activity consistent with the precursor to a ransomware event,” the company said in a statement.
“Medibank systems were not encrypted by ransomware during this incident and there is no indication that the incident was caused by a state-based threat actor.”
Meanwhile, MyDeal.com.au, a subsidiary of the Woolworths Group, has been targeted.
The online retail marketplace says data was exposed when its customer relationship management system was accessed by a “compromised user credential”.
Approximately 2.2 million customers were affected and all have been contacted by email. Woolworths Group says if you haven’t received an email, you have not been affected.
Are you becoming increasingly nervous about the safety of your personal details?
