Beloved (by some) breakfast TV present David ‘Kochie’ Koch has announced he will be stepping away from his role of host of Channel 7’s Sunrise program after 21 years with the show.
An emotional Kochie announced his departure live on air on Monday.
“I have loved every single minute of it and I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved here over the last 21 years,” he told viewers on air.
“I started here before Facebook, before Instagram, before Twitter and iPhones.
“I’ve been privileged to experience so many great adventures, to meet so many different people and to meet so many different people and to cover so many moments of history in the making.”
The departure leaves some big shoes to fill, and speculation as to who his replacement could be is already running riot.
Who do you think should replace Kochie on Sunrise?
How he got the gig in the first place all those years ago is still beyond me. I think it’s a case of go before you’re tapped on the shoulder. The rest of the team have great faces for radio, regrettably not television. Time for a complete overhaul. Channel 9 arn’t much better. Jacka.
It doesn’t much matter who replaces Kochie as long as it is not Matt Dolan or Monique Wright from weekend sunrise. They squabble like kids in a playground, However, Mat Shervington the ex-Olympic runner would be a good replacement going on his performances when filling in for Kochie.
