Safety data from Australia Post has revealed its Posties logged more than 81,000 hazards over the past 12 months while delivering the mail – an average of more than 200 per day.

Dogs were by far the most frequently reported hazard, followed by low-hanging or obstructive branches. Swooping magpies were also a frequent threat, along with insects building nests in letter boxes.

The hazard data was recorded by Posties using handheld tracking devices specifically introduced to reduce hazards and injuries to Posties.

The top five most frequently encountered hazards by Posties were:
      1. Unrestrained or aggressive dogs
      2. Low hanging branches, obstructive trees/shrubs
      3. Surface conditions such as cracked footpaths and uneven surfaces
      4. Letterbox conditions including sharp, jagged or rusted edges
      5. Blind driveways and obstructive cars

So, if your place has any of these, you might want to think about making life a bit easier for your delivery drivers.
