A restaurant in the US has come under fire for a controversial $50 ‘bad parenting’ fee it’s charging to customers whose children misbehave while dining.
The fee has sparked heated discussion online after one restaurant-goer posted a picture of the menu to social media site Reddit.
“What is deemed as an ‘adult who can’t parent’?” one person commented in the thread.
Another said: “Just say no kids…? Kids can be annoying, but they’re unpredictable because they’re KIDS.”
“If I read this at a restaurant I would probably leave,” someone else declared.
A customer who had actually been charged the fee chimed in.
“The owner came out and told me he was adding $50 to my bill because of my children’s behaviour,” he said.
“My kids watched a tablet until the food arrived, ate their food and my wife took them outside while I waited and paid the bill … disappointed by the experience.”
What constitutes ‘misbehaviour’ seems to be up to the discretion of the restaurant manager, which is causing a number of issues.
But if you were looking for a child-free night out, maybe something like this restaurant is the way to go? Do you think it’s fair?
This story has NOTHING to do with Australia!
Maybe not but the behaviour of some children in Australia makes you wonder if it should be encouraged, many today are not held accountable for their actions or taught to respect others.
So?
I agree, parents should be accountable for their kids behaviour. People go for a quiet meal and pay good money for it. Why should they have to put up with other peoples kids being naughty.
I agree with sjdeez and particularly like the “cash discount”.
Simple. Don’t go to the restaurant.
Very fair, leave the feral mongrels home!
