MemberThen PM Bob Hawk famously declared that any boss who sacked an employee for turning up late after Australia’s famous come-from-behind America’s Cup win in 1982 was a bum. Now, soccer (football)-mad Brazil has gone a step further during the women’s world cup being played in Australia and NZ.
The Brazilian government has announced that civil servants can turn up to work four hours late when the national side has a match.
“On days when the games are held at 8am, the working hours will start at 12pm Brasilia time,” Brazil’s minister of management and innovation in public services has declared.
On days when games start at 7am, working hours will start at 11am Brasilia time.
Football-obsessed Brazil is the most successful women’s team in South America. As Canarinhas have won eight out of nine Copa América Femenina championships and claimed two Olympic silver medals.
Would you support such a move if you were PM or a senior minister?
