Drivers in NSW, ACT and Western Australia are facing a double demerit point weekend this Easter, where drivers are hit with twice the number of demerit points than usual if they commit an offence.

The double points weekend lasts from today, Thursday 28 March through the long weekend until Monday 1 April.

Extra police will be out in force targeting offences including speeding, using a phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt and riding without a helmet.

Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the NT do NOT have a double demerit program running this weekend, but there will be extra police patrolling roads in those jurisdictions over the long weekend.
