Anyone else sick of the constant media hype around tennis players?
I don’t even have to name them, you know all the tantrum loving players who can’t seem to control their emotions.
But it’s also the media surrounding the game. Story after story seems to offer up that this time they will behave and win a tournament, and every single time it ends in pointless public posturing at best and cringeworthy meltdowns at worst.
No one is saying Serena Williams is perfect, but imagine if she carried on like Nick Kyrgios this week, and repeatedly smashed her racquet into the court and shouted at people at each and every game. She’d be crucified.
Makes you appreciate Ash Barty’s quiet dignity even more.
Do you find Kyrgios entertaining or disgusting?
It’s not just male tennis players who exhibit appalling behaviour. Consider other sportsmen from other games that use a variety of different shaped balls. But no matter the shape or size of the ball, the common denominator is the badly behaved are all men! You don’t see such behaviour from the women’s cricket, rugby, WALF, soccer, league, tennis or any other sport. Perhaps the reason is that women’s sport is not funded the way men’s sport is and most of the players still have jobs in the real world. Female sportswomen are not treated like demi-gods who can do no wrong, they are not paid ridiculous amounts at young ages and they don’t have battalions of people telling them how great they are whilst enabling the bad behaviour. And all this is aided and abetted by the Australian public who love it all as long as their ‘team’, or player is winning.
Disgusting
