      Peas are usually the least of your worries when it comes to making a meal. Just pour some into a saucepan of boiling water (or into a bowl in the microwave), leave them for a few of minutes and garnish with salt, pepper, and a little butter. What could be easier?

      And their health benefits are undisputed. One cup of fresh or frozen peas contains eight grams of protein and eight grams of fibre.

      Peas crop up in recipes for everything from pasta to paella and taste just as good on their own. So what’s the mistake too many people make?

      Peas are fairly indestructible compared with other vegetables. But that’s why it’s easy to neglect them and accidentally boil them for way too long.

      And remember that most frozen peas are flash-steamed before being packaged, which means that all you have to do is heat them through. We’re talking one or two minutes, not 10 or 15.
