Coughs and colds become more common at this time of year, and they can get particularly bad at night. Ex-paramedic Nikki Jurcutz gave 7News her biggest tip for getting rid of that pesky cough when the sun goes down.

Ms Jurcutz says when her kids have a nighttime cough, she gives them a spoonful of honey before bed, and says the remedy is effective for adults as well.

“A spoonful of honey has been a game changer in my home,” Jurcutz said.

“This tip has saved me so many times, and I’m hoping it helps another parent, too.

Ms Jurcutz suggests mixing honey with a small amount of warm liquid if you’re not a big fan of honey.

What other home remedies do you know of? Are they effective?
