A popular Gold Coast restaurant is being blasted on social media after a customer said she and her friend were turned away from the venue because of ‘intimidating’ and ‘aggressive’ tattoos.

The 23-year-old Australian woman had entered the Burleigh Pavilion with a heavily tattooed friend who was visiting from overseas, when the pair were asked to leave and were told the tattoos were the reason why.

“Burleigh Pavilion is a family and community-oriented venue,” a statement on the company website reads.

“Guests with tattoos are welcome at our venue; however, our policy does not permit intimidating, aggressive, or offensive tattoos, clothing or behaviour which may offend or intimidate other guest or staff.

“Tattoos on the neck, head and face are viewed as increased intimidation in that order.”
The woman in question was not happy with the decision.

‘It’s so crazy to me that still in 2023 people are discriminated against over tattoos…’ she told the Daily Mail.

‘It’s so embarrassing bringing my cool, fun and freaky friends to Australia and being told to leave because of her tattoos, are you kidding?’ she added.

That is fair enough. The policy was clearly stated.

Those neck, head and face tattoos can be very frightening, to children especially.

There will be other venues where they can eat.
