ParticipantThere’s been a lot in the news lately about an historic English tree called the Sycamore Gap tree being cut down and honestly, I feel their pain.
Frankly I’d prefer vandals spray-paint rubbish graffiti on my fence than a beautiful tree being cut down.
This tree was estimated to be several hundred years old and stood in a valley traversed by Hadrian’s Wall.
Initially, it was blamed on a 16 year old but my suspicions were confirmed that was untrue when the investigations lead elsewhere. The cut looked too professional for a single teen to complete.
What goes through these people’s minds? It’s not like you’ve tripped over a twig. They would have had to plan it, to say nothing of the logistics of cutting a massive tree down in the middle of the night.
And what does it achieve? It’s not even like they needed it for firewood. At least I could understand that.
I hope they catch the wretched person and they are publicly outed.
What do you think of tree vandals?
