So Tasmania is going to get its own AFL team and a few people are getting their knickers in a twist about the possible name the Tasmania Devils.

People are clutching their pearls that Warner Bros has trademarked the Tasmanian Devil and how very dare a large multinational claim our unique fauna.

Everyone calm down.

What Warner Bros has trademarked is that physically inaccurate cartoon character and while the log mark does contain the words ‘Tasmanian Devil’ it’s only for the US, so it isn’t even enforceable to take legal action over the issue in Australia.

Celebrity chef and actual lawyer Adam Liaw explains it all better than me in this twitter post.

If you want my vote for unique Tasmanian fauna to name your team, why not the Red Bellied Pademelon. That’s going to go a treat in chants.
