We’ve been lucky in our family, nothing too serious, just an oven that wasn’t turned on, but champagne papered over those cracks and there’s always a barbecue.

One year mum spent months making cumquat brandy and it was nothing short of vile, but we all had a crack at it because it’s your mum. Thankfully it’s never appeared again.

A friend of mine works in an emergency department and she says without fail every year they get at least two or three people who have cut their hand open trying to remove an avocado pip with a knife while under the influence.

I have also heard of cats having a crack at meat left out, rotten chicken and inedible plum puddings.

So, let’s have it, what’s been your worst experience?

One year my Mother in law made a delicious looking jam and cream sponge and served it up to us.
My youngest refused to have any and told us later that she had seen the cat jump up on the table where the cake was and lick off half the cream and her Grandma had just put some more cream on.
