There’s been a few sightings of the southern lights lately (Aurora Australis) but how do you get to see them?

There are four tips to improving your chance of seeing the southern lights, you need a clear night, you need to be out of a city and away from light pollution, the further south you can go the better and winter is the best season.

Tasmania is the best place to view the lights, but they are also often visible in the southern areas of the mainland.

If you don’t want to take your chances randomly driving out to the country to try and see them, there are a couple of websites that can help predict the likelihood of the lights occurring. They are softservenews and Service Aurora.

Have you ever seen the southern lights? Where were you?

Recently in Tasmania some of group travelling saw them. Very different though to what I saw many years ago in Finland. It’s certainly spectacular!
