Many Australians don’t want to change anything with regards to the constitution. Unfortunately for those of us who want Australia to be come a republic we’re not enough in numbers.A bipartisan approach is not possible, particularly with the current parties. The no republic people will always say there are far more important priorities to deal. Well there always have been and always will be so that’s a futile reason not to change anything really. I doubt there will be an Australian Republic in my lifetime and many of us have just given up in the face of relentless opposition and resistance to any change. There will unlikely be any change to the constition in the next 20 – 30 years after the 2023 defeat of the Voice. Sadly, we’re still a country of very conservative, insular and inexorable people.
