Brumbies are an attractive, appealing animal. Unfortunately, with their hard hoofs, rapid rate of reproduction and healthy appetite, they are completely unsuited to sharing our irreplaceable national parks with native species that have lived there for 100’s of thousands of years.
Whether we like it or not, they are a feral introduced species with a very short history in this country, and they are doing enormous damage to our natural environment. As I understand it, the NSW Govt plan is to try to reduce the numbers down to about 7000 or thereabouts. They really should be removed completely, but it looks like some sort of compromise has been reached. The sooner they get the numbers down, the better.
