It looks like we will have to fund our time in a nursing home given that we have made good business and life decisions to scrimp and save for our own retirement.
Therefore, whatever is left over will be what our children will inherit via our Wills.
We do not discuss our finances with our children although they can possibly guess what our wealth is in $.

Every person wanting to stand for election to Council, State and Federal seats should be required to submit a Resume of their relevant experience and qualifications for the job.
Preferably with real life employment or business experience and Tertiary educated. People with a vision for the future of our country.
Too many are there for the perks that go with the job and the pension at the end of their term.

Our local councillors have just given themselves a 25% pay rise, yet our rates were increased by a lot more than this! Robbing Peter to pay Paul!

Nothing new. It has been raining constantly where we live since the 16th January 2020!

It means that young kids and teenagers won’t have the ability to earn income and learn the skills required for working effectively and for better paid jobs.

I reverted to zero alcohol wine some years ago now and haven’t looked back. I am now used to the flavour but usually have a bottle only every few weeks and take one with me if going out. Don’t miss alcohol at all. I am female 76.

It is not the space of the home, but the space around the home that is important.
Looking around at new estates the gutters of the homes just about touch each other with centimetres between the house and the fence. No wonder there are numerous arguments between neighbours; noise, balls/kids toys going over fences, tree and tree root problems, parking, etc. etc.
Instead of having a bedroom for each child and extra living spaces, media rooms, etc. make the houses smaller therefore having some space for recreation and kids to play.

Bought a Subaru Forester in mid 2023 after owning a Nissan Pathfinder since 2003. The Pathfinder had hardly any bells and whistles whereas the Forester has all the bells and whistles. Problem is trying to work out what is what and what it is for – still trying to make sense of it all!

There are lots of online exercise videos that can help older people with their physical ability.
Many people as they get older just do not exercise or walk or bend etc. Even those who have physical barriers can still do sitting exercises.
A lot are just too lazy to do anything about it.
I am an “older” person at 76 and still physically active and can stand on one foot for longer than 10 seconds….because I continually practise it.

Annie I still send and receive Christmas cards. It is a nice way of keeping in contact with people whom we don’t see regularly.
The cards that I receive I cut the pictures from and use them as tags on Christmas presents.

We did the “tree change” 9 years ago and have never looked back.
Yes, facilities are not necessarily as abundant or as timely as in the city but you learn to adapt.
We have a hospital, train service, public and private schools, quite a few medical practices and several dentists, physios, etc.
We have Coles, Woolworths and Aldi but only one Plaza type shopping centre. Main tenant is Coles, with Target and Millers for clothing plus the usual Chemist, hairdressers, nail salon, cafes, games stores, etc. But these shops change fairly regularly as the rent charged by the owner is very high and there is only so many residents, approx. 25,000.
There is a long main street of various shops, again which open and close regularly.
Property sales (of residential premises) are generally from $400K to less than $1m so it is attractive for retirees who can free up some of their capital from their Sydney properties, buy here and have free spending money.

Yes, we live in regional area and our home and contents premiums have jumped 57.1% this year.
We are definitely not in a flood prone area. We did need to have our roof replaced after a massive hailstorm just before Christmas 2018 and the replacement was not effected until May/June 2019.
Bushfires were within a few kms of us during late 2019 and early 2020 but we were never in danger.
We needed to reduce the price of our home and contents to make the premium affordable.
