Prime Minister’s $5 million pledge to transform Nowra’s riverfront

In a move that has sent waves of excitement across the Shoalhaven region, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced a $5 million federal investment to rejuvenate the Nowra riverfront, promising to elevate this already stunning locale into a premier tourist destination and a more vibrant community hub.

During a visit to the picturesque NSW south coast, alongside local Labor MP Fiona Phillips, the Prime Minister expressed his admiration for the area, describing it as ‘one of the most beautiful and picturesque parts of Australia’. This may be indicative of the government seeing the potential in Nowra, not just as a jewel in the crown of the Shoalhaven, but as a place that deserves attention and investment to unlock its full potential.

The $5 million pledge is set to fund the Nowra Riverfront Activation Plan, a visionary project that has been brewing for years and finally presented to the local council in 2023.

The project is expected to unite the central business district with the riverfront, creating a cohesive and inviting space that will make Nowra an even more attractive place to live and visit.

The Nowra Riverfront Activation Plan incorporates hundreds of ideas to transform the banks of the Shoalhaven River at Nowra, focusing on improving the waterway’s health while enhancing its overall appeal.

Additionally, it seeks to revitalise the central business district by introducing more green and social spaces, fostering a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

  1. The grub was splashing the cash because Gilmore is a very marginal seat; nothing to do with his love for the region, just trying to buy votes. The $5 million will do absolutely nothing except fund plan preparations; any work that MAY happen will be borne by Shoalhaven City Council which is deeply in debt due to the previous Labor/Green dominated Council mismanagement. The local State member was part of that Labor/Green bloc in Council. Seeing that trio on the TV screen didn’t do anything to instill any confidence in the initiative and frankly I’m struggling to see any relevance for the community which is too preoccupied with trying to make ends meet given the economic mismanagement.
