ALDI shoppers furious over $4.99 organiser fail—what went wrong?

When it comes to kitchen organisation, we all strive for that perfect balance of functionality and aesthetic appeal. It’s a universal quest to find the best gadgets and storage solutions that not only make our lives easier but also fit seamlessly into our homes. ALDI, known for its budget-friendly Special Buys, often hits the mark with innovative products that promise to solve our everyday dilemmas without breaking the bank. However, even the most well-intentioned items can sometimes miss the mark, leading to shopper frustration.

The latest product causing a stir among ALDI’s clientele is a seemingly handy Can Organiser, priced at an attractive $4.99. It’s the kind of item that promises to transform a cluttered fridge into a model of efficiency, where every can of drink has its place. But, as some eagle-eyed shoppers have discovered, there’s a glaring oversight that’s left many fuming – the organiser doesn’t fit standard Australian drink cans.

The issue was brought to light by a disappointed customer on the ALDI Mums Facebook group, who lamented the organiser’s inability to hold a standard can. ‘ALDI whyyy,’ she posted, expressing her dismay. ‘Got the can fridge organiser and no drinks fit. I wish I could say it’s just that one but I had two and neither hold a standard can.’

This sentiment was echoed by a chorus of similarly frustrated shoppers. Comments ranged from disbelief to humour, with one shopper joking about the need to wait for ‘shrink-flation’ before the trays could be used. Others shared their own experiences, with some noting they had returned the faulty product, while others tried to make do by standing the cans up inside the organiser.

The conversation soon turned to speculation about why this design flaw occurred. Some suggested that the organiSer might have been designed for ALDI’s own-brand cans, which are reportedly shorter, or for the 330ml cans common in other markets, rather than the standard 375ml cans found in Australia. Others humorously proposed that ALDI might be privy to future can size reductions or that the product was intended for overseas markets with smaller cans.

Regardless of the reason, the frustration was palpable, and the solution for many was clear – shop elsewhere for a can organiser that actually fits Australian cans. Helpful shoppers chimed in with alternative suggestions, recommending adjustable organisers from Temu, a fitting option from Kmart, or a functional version from The Reject Shop.

It’s always frustrating when a product doesn’t live up to expectations—especially when it’s meant to make life easier! While some shoppers have found workarounds, others have opted for alternatives that better suit Australian can sizes.
