Vale Nicholas Winton

It would be no surprise if you weren’t aware of Sir Nicholas Winton – the WW2 hero otherwise known as the ‘British Schindler’. For 50 years his wife didn’t even know about his heroic act of saving hundreds of Jewish children from the clutches of the Nazis.

The British humanitarian organised the rescue, safe passage and homes for 669 children in an operation later referred to as the ‘Czech Kindertransport‘. After the war, Winton never talked about his efforts with anyone – even his wife, who only found out what he had done after she discovered a scrapbook in their attic some 50 years later.

Sir Nicholas passed away yesterday, aged 106. Those he saved, as well as their families, who may have never existed if it weren’t for his bravery, will always remember his heroic deeds. Why not learn more about this great man’s exploits?
