For many Australians, the allure of Costco’s bulk buys and exclusive deals has been tempered by the requirement of a membership to shop there. A new partnership with DoorDash is changing how Australians shop at Costco. The partnership allows non-members in select cities to order from Costco through DoorDash.
The partnership between the US retail giant and the delivery service DoorDash is a significant shift in Costco’s business model, which has traditionally been exclusive to members only. Now, non-members in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane can enjoy the convenience of same-day delivery from Costco, provided they live within roughly an hour’s drive from a store.
For busy families, having Costco groceries delivered could be a helpful alternative to in-store shopping. Take Kimberly Caruso, a mother of two from Melbourne, who juggles full-time work in transport logistics with the demands of family life. For her, shopping with children aged four and eight is a daunting task. The new service promises to be a ‘phenomenal’ timesaver, allowing her to fit grocery shopping into her hectic schedule without the added stress of store visits.
The ability to purchase in bulk from the comfort of your home is not only a time-saver but also a budget-friendly option. Buying in bulk can sometimes help families reduce grocery costs, especially when it comes to stocking up on essentials for school lunches and everyday needs.
DoorDash’s vice president, Simon Rossi, highlights the timeliness of this partnership. As Australian families and small businesses grapple with becoming more time-poor and facing the rising cost of living, home delivery makes Costco’s bulk shopping more accessible to non-members.
Members of Costco will continue to enjoy exclusive prices, promotions, and offers, but the door is now open for non-members to explore the wide range of products that Costco has to offer. New customers can get $20 off their first Costco order when spending $150 or more.
The partnership is part of a broader expansion for Costco in Australia. The retailer recently announced the opening of its largest Australian fuel station in the Melbourne suburb of Ardeer, and the anticipation is building for the grand opening of a new 16,000sqm warehouse in the same area on 9th April 2025. Until then, the fuel station will serve customers seven days a week, with 38 filling bowsers and a variety of fuel options.
This new partnership between Costco and DoorDash marks a significant shift in how Australians can access bulk shopping without a membership. For some shoppers, the service may offer a convenient way to access Costco products.
