Le Monastère des Augustines

Oldtown Quebec City is both historically important as well as a wellspring of French, European, North American and Indigenous culture. The province of Quebec is also a major player in sophisticated industries, such as aerospace and information technologies. However, amid the history, high-tech hoo-hah and hustle and bustle there is a spiritual place of peace and quiet called Le Monastère des Augustines.

This 17th century holistic retreat is located in the historic wings of the Hôtel-Dieu de Québec monastery, where guests come to find inner peace and wellness in the calming quarters founded by three Augustinian sisters in 1639. You can visit the monastery and explore Quebec City on APT’s 16 Day Discover Eastern Canada & The Maritimes tour.

Recently, Kaye visited the monastery and spoke with Edith Caron, the Business Development Director, who explained to us the history of Le Monastère des Augustines and its past occupants.
