With the Australian Border Force strike under way, from Monday 26 September until Sunday 9 October, Australians should expect longer delays at all airports.

The strike has been conveniently timed for the school holiday period, at a time when families are taking children away on overseas trips over the break. According to recent data, many will be taking off for overseas destinations such as Indonesia, Fiji, New Zealand and Thailand.
Regional Sales Manager at CheapFlights ANZ, Nathan Graham, warns Aussie travellers to expect longer than usual delays as a result of the strike.
“The best thing for families to do is to be prepared. We recommend arriving to the airport early and checking in an extra hour in advance of your flight to avoid the lines, especially if you’re travelling with young children,” he said.
Any flights cancelled during airport strikes should be covered within your standard travel insurance policy, but authorities are encouraging travellers to check their policies before they travel, as terms and conditions may vary.
It is worth noting that travellers may not be covered if a strike had been advised in advance, and a ticket was purchased after the fact.
